A Precious Ancestry

A processing technique that has its roots in the very soil of  Umbria, makes Rometti ceramics unique. Clay collected from the Sansepolcro quarries, used centuries ago by the Etruscans for their ceramic art, reveals its magic in the craftsmen’s expert hands. Rometti has given new luster to the ancient working of the potters’ wheel, a work still present in the region and in the DNA of the few artisans who guard the secrets of this primordial bond with clay.

This technique produces stunning one-of-a-kind pieces shaped around a central axis. The special, almost symbiotic bond between the art director and the potter distorts, folds, plays with the object, in a close dialogue between complementary points of view and in perfect creative harmony. The use of colour has always been fundamental in Rometti's creations; all shades are created in house, and are the result of diverse inspirations. Illustrations that reflect the graffiti technique on unfired glaze used by Cagli and Baldelli, engravings, reliefs and bas-reliefs become expressive forms of a continuously evolving artistic culture. The key word is experimentation; from the different firing techniques used to achieve the desired result to the use of colour, Rometti is a forge of continuously tested ideas pushing beyond the limits of the ordinary to obtain iconic and immortal pieces.
