Christian Tortu

The art of living begins with the art of seeing.
The whole story of Christian Tortu, the man, the florist and the designer, began in his farmer parents’ garden in the French region of Anjou. His arrival in Paris made him realize how much true nature was missing in the well- planned and organised parks. He wanted to offer a new look at the use of plants, a free, almost wild look like that of his childhood. With Christian Tortu vegetation became the lure to an imaginary journey away from  known paths towards a place without prejudices or borders. The world quickly took notice of his highly imaginative yet simple arrangements. His floral scenography was presented at the Cannes Film Festival and in fashion shows by Chanel, Dior and Valentino. To complement his outlook on life, Christian and his team have developed collections of vases, decorative objects, perfumed products and home accessories, always drawing on pure elements. In boutiques around the world, they try to offer their customers new experiences by (re) discovering nature through the combination of the senses. They don’t offer bouquets, only the art of living, which begins with the art of seeing. Flowers are no longer trinkets or immutable objects, but living elements that can make life softer and more beautiful.

Christian Tortu is best known for single-handedly challenging how the world views all things floral; blending flowers, plants and vegetables into unique compositions that strip artifice and offer direct interpretations of nature.
