Luca Baldelli

A story that returns.

Born in Città di Castello in 1953, Luca Baldelli trained at the Art Institute of Perugia and continued his studies in Rome at the Institute for Graphic Arts. From the early 1970s, he worked in the historic family workshop, Baldelli Ceramiche, beginning a personal path dedicated to ceramic design and experimentation. At the same time, he undertook an important teaching career: since 1972 he has been a professor at the School of Graphic Arts in Città di Castello, and since 2000 he has been an Academician of Fine Arts. His work moves beyond categories, without rigidly distinguishing between painting and ceramics. In both, the same visual tension emerges — a research that favors the construction of the artwork, the balance between surfaces, colors, and signs, rather than narration or representation. Baldelli is drawn to the immediate impact of the image and its ability to generate vibration and rhythm. His works arise from continuous transformations of matter, shaped by intense chromatic fields and essential markings. At their core lies an intuitive, almost instinctive process that recalls a primary dimension of imagination: a free, non-rational space where gesture becomes form and form becomes visual experience. A coherent and recognizable language, built over time through research, teaching, and daily practice.

With this collaboration, realized in the Giardini collection, Rometti and Luca Baldelli choose to pay tribute to a circle coming full circle: the meeting with the son of Dante Baldelli, a historic figure of the manufactory since its founding. A dialogue that gains even greater symbolic meaning as Rometti approaches the centenary of its history. A choice guided by artistic and visionary affinity, but also by a deep sense of continuity and affection for a shared heritage.

A language born from matter and shaped over time, through form, color, and gesture. Luca Baldelli creates works in which ceramics become a space of visual freedom, capable of transcending boundaries, techniques, and definitions.
